Wonderful location for local walks and of course proximity to Cartmel Priory, which we always find so spiritually uplifting. It has been a brief but much-needed break, so thank you for the comfort of the Woodlabnd Cottage and beautiful garden. We followed you pub / restaurant suggestions and had a lovely meal at the Masons Arms on Saturday lunchtime Congratulations on your licensing Biddy we wiull pray for you in your ministry".

August 2017
Our first visit to this beautiful area was enhance by our stay in this delightful, cosy cottage. Every morning our hearts were gladdened by the scenery. We enjoyed the boat ride on Windermere and exploring here and there. Cartmel Priory was fascinating, the cheese and beer shops offered a lovely lunch. The four of us really enjoyed our stay. PS A big thank you for a most comfortable mattress.
Catherine, Margaret and MAX, South Shields "Enjoyed out stay in your clean, warm, comfortable cottage. Ideal being all on one level. Weather was very kind to us. We normally stay in the north Lakes but thought we would have a change of venue after visiting Cartmel on a day trip last year. Very dog friendly in the village. Enjoyed a couple of good meals and of course visited and bought a Sticky Toffee Pudding. Garden was great for MAX. Cartmel is very central for visiting various places around and near the Lakes".
Alison, Tommy, Zoe and Nathan "We had a great week thanks. The cottage is in a great location with loads to do nearby and a lovely walk down to Cartmel. We saw bats on the walk home each evening! Thanks"!

Mandy and richard from Lincoln "Great location, lovely and secluded. Dogs loved the garden and meeting Jolanda and JB over the fence (Friesan and Shetland horses). Well equipped althougha little more storage for food would be nice. Second visit and may well be back in future. The Priory Hotel is great and very welcoming to dogs. Shame about TV reception as hada few damp evenings and couldn't get any channels. Luckily WiFi is great so watched on iPads. Loved Utility Room - great with 2 dogs.
Scott and Sean "Wonderful stay in idyllic location"!
Helen and Janine "Lovely place and amazing views. Visiting family in Kents Bank and perfect location for us all to meet up on my retirement road trip. Last visited cartmel 30 years ago - what a change!
Louise and Mike "Certainly is a beautiful place! Unfortunately until the last two days (when it was red hot), we had poor weather, but still enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is great, and the best heating and hot water we've had anywhere. And lovely comfy beds! and although we never ventured out to eat I managed to cook some great meals. You must go to the fabulaous fruit shop in Grange and the butcher there. The garden is fabulous and when the weather imporoved it's a lovely place to sit. Alfie enjoyed it immensely. Thank you John and Biddy. We visited Holker Hall and Levens Hall. There are deer at Holker but they kept their distance! PS Amazing craft shop in Cartmel! PPS TV reception terrible but as it's awful anyway it didn't matter!!! [Note from John: we think we have solved this, but we know it varies according to weather etc]

May 2017
Bianca and Tommy with Thomas Spike Chops and Scrabble "What a beautiful place! We couldn't have asked for a more pleasant stay We would live here if we could! Thank you so much for the flowers, milk and 'brew kit' as my husband calls it. Perfect cottage for our little family and our dogs could not have had a better garden to play in. I think we'll be back! Thanks again".
Ms Birch "What a lovely cottage so nice and warm on arrival, it has everything for a perfect stay. As a lady on my own with my two dogs it was perfect, not too far from Cartmel and some lovely walks for the girls. The utility room was such a bonus the dogs were able to dry off in there and also had their bed in there overnight. The owners John and Biddy really make you feel welcome. Fresh milk and flowers on arrival, how nice is that - much appreciated. I will be back soon - thank you. PS Cookie and Maise said they really liked you garden".
Mark and Wendy, Ormskirk "We have had a truly lovely stay in this idyllic cottage. The peace and quiet was just what we needed - rush hour seemed to be one car passing on the road! We have been out and about making the most of the glorious weather and explored local tarns, bluebell woods, incredible views, lovely villages and even down to the bay - everything just here on our doorstep! Archie our dog has also loved every minute - particularly the circular walk. Many thanks John and Biddy, we will be back"!

April 2017
The Cobbes from Essex "What a wonderful cottage. We had a fantastic time over the Easter weekend. Boat trip on Windermere, followed by a walk up the Old Man of Coniston. Enjoy the good food and reasonable prices at the Kings Arms and the Pig and Whistle. The soup and sandwiches at the the Mallard are also worth a visit. The cottage is a Tardis with plenty of room for all. Our dog couldn't get enough of playing in the garden. Thank you, John, we will be telling our friends".

February 2017

Kate and Brian "Another lovely peaceful New Year with no rain during the day! A real pick me up, just sorry we have to leave a day early but our daughter has rung this morning to say she's ill and needs some TLC! PS Daughter adamant we shouldn't cut short our holiday and stayed until 2nd in the end - well she is 26!
Janet, Mark, Tina and the dogs "Lovely cottage we had a very restful and enjoyable stay.  Great Christmas retreat".

November 2016

It was our first holiday in the Lake District - such a beautiful place! Luckily we had nice weather, cold but sunny. Our 3 year old son had a fantastic time too! So much to do outside, and he absolutely loved the Beatrix Potter place in Bowness!
Gay and Graham, Milton Keynes "1st impression 'Wow'. Homely, cosy, well-equipped and clean. The trip here was all about the restaurants. The Pig and Whistle were so accommodating. The Coffee Shop Cafe great for breakfast. Cavendish Arms good evening meal. The main event for us was L'enclume, what a mind blowing taste experience. we enjoyed walks to and from the village. Would love to come and stay again".

October 2016
The Camakammas "Dear John, many thanks for a wonderful stay at your cottage. It was our first time visiting the Lakes and this has been the perfect location. We have visited Beatrix Potter's cottage, Tarn Hows and did a cruise over Lake Windermere. Our dog Monty especially enjoyed the visit - he doesn't have the opportunity to walk as much in London as he has here!"
Kathy and Paul, Fylde Coast "We had a comfortable stay in this hidden away 'oldy worldy' cottage, the open fire just takes me back to my childhood but not so many happy memories of cleaning out the fire - I was too young to appreciate at that time. The picture window view when the sun is rising in the morning is amazing, such an idyllic spot / find. Just 1 mile walk into Cartmel and for a small compact village it most definitely has everything ... Enjoyed the Sunday 11am service at the Priory. The church inside is a must to see. Many thanks".
Michael Richard and Jeanette "John and Biddy many thanks for providing a comfortable house when we attended a family wedding. We did not know this part of the country but will return here. Your attention to detail - son arriving on our first day - was very thoughtful".

Had a great break with 'Monty' Dog, did the local walk - very muddy, boots next time! - attended a service at Cartmel Priory. We even managed a drama - found out I am allergic to shrimp, Kendal Hospital looked after me very well and quickly. Hope we can come again!"
Tony Jane and Cassie "Thank you John and Biddy. A great weekend to recharge the batteries, enjoy some beautiful scenery and local walks and sample some great local produce. The new bed's fantastic! No rolling to the middle! Cassie the dog has enjoyed her stay as well, delighting in having a good space to runaround and play. See you again".

October 2015
Tom, Caroline, Emily & George, Essex "We have had a great week in your lovely cottage, thank you! Monday we visited Lake Windermere and took the boat to Bowness and went to the Beatrix potter exhibition which the children (age 4 and 2) loved! Tuesday went to Old Hall Farm in Bouth. We were first there (10am) and they let the children feed the animals! Fabulous place! We went to Sandscale National Nature Reserve and spent a couple of hours collecting shells on the stunning sandy beach and dunes. Wednesday went to Grange over Sands and walked (chidren scooted!) on the promenade, had a fantastic tea / coffee / cake at the tea rooms there, walked through the ornamental gardens and fed the ducks - beautiful. Thursday Wild Animal Park - brilliant despite the rain! We drove round Coniston Water while the children napped in the car. Stunning drive and scenery. Friday day in Cartmel, bit of shopping, lunch and swings and slides (!) We hope to visit again as there's still a lot to do!"
Peter, Lisa & dogs "Garden was fabulous for dogs and the cottage is well situated for exploring nearby Cartmel and the southern lakes. Cottage has been well equipped with essentials. One small point, we don't come away to watch TV, however on Saturday had planned walking day so I could get back to the cottage to watch rugby on ITV. Couldn't watch the last 20 minutes due to reception issues. was told this was an intermittent problem but seemed an issue all week [I have checked this again: the signal strength is not quite as good as for BBC etc but picture is usually alright. Have tried altering the wiring and other suggestions from aerial advisors to no avail. Atmospherics will always affect this due to our distance from the transmitter - JH]. Didn't really affect our stay but stuff like that would be better advertised upfront in my opinion. Also think fixing the TV to the wall with cables hanging looks a bit shabby [Now tidied up a little. TV is fixed to avoid the need for extra furniture and aid thorough cleaning - JH again]. Minor easily fixable niggles. Still had a great time in a lovely cottage and lovely village. Thank you."
Barbara & Peter & Jess the Lab "Lovely holiday in this lovely cottage. Very good weather for October - even sitting out in the late afternoon sunshine and enjoying views and birdsong. Wonderful stars and Milky Way on clear nights."

September 2015
Denise & Paul "Such a wonderful little cottage, garden walks and views. We have had a lovely couple of days away from the city and Paul has enjoyed his first time in the lakes. Cartmel's little farmer's market and antiques fair was so sweet and picking up some duck eggs on the way home from an honesty box took me back many years! The blackberries in the hedgerows and the horses coming to say hello every evening have been so lovely. If you get the chance go up to Gummer's Howe next to Windermere. It's a half mile hike that lets you see all of Windermere and the hills around for miles. Blessed with great weather we are sorry to leave. Many thanks and love."
Anne, Bob, Jan & Jimmy "We've had a lovely time in this gorgeous cottage, very well-equipped with everything you could possibly need. We were lucky to have great weather and have had some lovely walks. Spent a nice day in Coniston and the other day we walked from Brockhole to Waterhead and then got a boat back."
Paul & Jacqui "Had a lovely restful week with the best weather we've ever had in many times we've been to the lakes. Ruby (the dog) has loved the garden, the walks and the stream that runs through Cartmel. Coffee and teacakes with the wonderful jams at the Sticky Toffee shop was the highlight of our mornings. many thanks John and Biddy we have had an excellent week at your wonderful cottage. All the best."
Richard & Trudy, Hertfordshire "We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Woodland Cottage, which has provided for all our needs. What is more, we have particularly enjoyed the wonderful peace and quiet, and the marvellous views. We have been to the Races. We have walked to, and visited, Holker Hall, and we have walked to Cark Station, taken the train to Grange-over-Sands and then walked back over Hampsfell. However, the most regular activity has been associated with de-activating the fairly sensitive smoke detector in the cottage!! many thanks John & Biddy we have had an excellent week - and the weather has been so kind!

August 2015

Will hate to leave tomorrow. we will have to spend a few days when we return to the UK. The walks were spectacular, the scenery some of the best. Food at Cavendish Arms plentiful and very good. On the way our GPS went out and we found the cottage in the dark with the printed instructions. Thanks John & Biddy for that. Day after tomorrow our daughter will marry her Brit and we will head home.

Miles, Maxine, Daniel & Bree the dog from Berkshire "2nd visit to this lovely cottage, and enjoyed every day again. Weather great all week - does it rain up here?!! 2 trips to the races not as profitable as we wanted, but good nevertheless. Can recommend carvery at pub in Cark on a Sunday £6pp and delicious! Very sad at having to leave for home today but I'm sure we will be back for a 3rd visit in the future. PS Can also recommend Witherslack Equestrian Centre for riding."

We will definitely be back - so thank you John and Biddy for a lovely break!"

Alison Neil and Maureen "What a lovely weekend - arrived and left in beautiful sunshine. The cottage is so well equipped, we have wanted for nothing. The setting is wonderful, so peaceful and an amazing view from the lounge window. The garden is great and allowed us to make the most of the sunshine. We enjoyed good food at the Cavendish Arms and Uplands. We have holidayed in Cartmel before so know the area, it is a good base to explore the Lakes. We picked the cottage specifically as it is all on one level, as we brought my Mum who cannot manage stairs easily. It is ideal for people with mobility problems. Thank you for a lovely stay, I am sure we will return."
Colin ??? and Storm "My wife and daughter were here with our dog Storm three years ago. This time my wife myself plus Storm have returned. I understand why my family enjoyed their stay so much. The cottage is perfect for a quiet holiday and the walled garden ensures the dog is always secure. We had everything we wanted to ensure we had a relaxing week. The cottage has every appliance to ensure that whatever the weather a good time can be had. The weather this week has been pretty good with a fair smattering of sunshine. We have stayed in the south lakes visiting Windermere, Coniston, Lakeside, Ambleside and all the surrounding areas. Grange is also worth a walk round. The local walk referred to on the cottage noticeboard is ideal for morning / evening stroll with the dog. World Cup starts tonight so getting ready for Brazil v Croatia before travelling home tomorrow. But as Arnie says "we will be back".

My daughter and myself have had many holidays in the Lakes but this has, without doubt, been the nicest, most comfortable and with every mod-con we have had! we have decided it's like staying in Snow White's cottage without the dwarves!"

Eddy and Morag and two teenage daughters " ... lots to do close by ... the cottage has been brilliant! All you could need away from home and the peace and quiet has been great. ...

"Kate and Brian ... with dog and teenage children coming and going ... Despite awful weather at times, had a lovely week of peace and fun . This is our second time at Woodland Cottage and we found the quiet lanes around here fantastic for walking (I am a wheelchair user). ... The cottage itself has everything you need. Enjoyed the greeness and the silence after a very busy time at work. Don't want to go home and hope to be back. Thank you for our slice of country life in theis beautifully situated, cosy, clean and comfortable cottage."
